The Laserluchs LA 850-50-PRO II is an infrared illuminator for night vision designed to support generation 2+, 3, and CORE digital night vision devices. Detective Store offers professional devices compatible with the illuminator, manufactured by USA-based Armasight, and Canadian GSCI. Laser infrared illuminators are considerably more effective than diode-based illuminators – infrared beams have a specific monochromatic wave length, while IR diodes emit waves of rated frequency, as well as alternating shorter and longer waves. This poses a risk of being detected, since shorter waves are visible to human eye. On the other hand, longer waves are not processed efficiently by photocathodes, which means they are virtually invisible to human eyes. Another advantage of laser illuminators is their angular characteristic – laser beams are not prone to dispersion, remaining focused at one point instead, which makes them more difficult to detect. Yet another important feature is the possibility to use them to gain tactical advantage, since laser illuminators projecting high-powered beams are capable of temporarily or permanently blinding the opponent's night vision systems.
