The L-3 Thermal-Eye X320 thermal imaging camera is based on an advanced, amorphous, silicon microbolometer sensor with improved performance compared to its predecessor. Thermography is based on measurement of radiation in infrared spectrum – every object with a temperature above absolute zero emits infrared light, which is exaclty what thermal imaging cameras measure. Even the smallest temperature differences are converted into images that are visible to people, so it is possible to use the camera even in complete darkness (as opposed to night vision). The L-3 Thermal-Eye X320 operates in atmospheric conditions that would otherwise prevent visibility, such as dense fog, mist, or dusty environment. Using thermal imaging cameras gives the operator a significant tactical advantage due to early detection of threats during observation of vast scenes in any conditions.

The Thermal-Eye X320 thermal imaging camera has an image sensor with 320 × 240 resolution and 40mK thermal sensitivity. In addition, improved algorithms for image processing, automatic gain control, contrast, and sharpness work together to allow to detect and recognize human silhouette from an impressive 735 metres away!

The thermal imaging camera is easy and intuitive to operate. A battery level indicator is visible in the field of view, as well as a clear and user friendly menu. The buttons and battery compartment were designed to be easy to work with, even while wearing gloves. The L-3 Thermal-Eye X320 tactical camera has a video output which might be used to connect an external video recorder. A built-in power connector allows to power the device using a DC adapter.

The advanced technologies used in the L-3 Thermal-Eye X320 thermal imaging camera allows to construct a device very compact and lightweight, measuring only 13cm in length and weighing just 380 grams, which makes it an ideal instrument for harsh environments.
