Morakniv is one of the most popular manufacturers of outdoor knives in the world. Staying true to tradition, for more than 130 years it has produced blades in just one factory - in the Swedish village of Östnor, in the municipality of Mora. During this time, the company's artisanal spirit has not changed. From the beginning, Morakniv has minimised its environmental impact by using renewable materials in the most thoughtful way.
The flagship Morakniv Classic knives have also remained true to tradition. They are assembled by hand - just as they were in 1891. With a carbon steel blade and a handle made of red dyed birch wood, they are an icon of Swedish craftsmanship and the history of an entire country. Indeed, the manufacturer is also the official supplier of knives to Kungafamilijen - the royal family.
What has changed is the scale of Morakniv's production: a 120 tonne press now produces 7,000 blades in just one hour - two per second. Each year, 3 million knives are honed in the factory. The company's secret is the hardening process - it is this stage that gives the steel its excellent properties. The knives become tough and yet do not lose their flexibility and sharpness.
