All thermal imaging devices operate in an infrared light band, which is totally invisible to human eye. The main source of infrared is heat produced by every object whose temperature exceed the absolute zero i.e. -273.15°C. The use of this physical phenomenon has led to creation of high class devices that generate an image visible to human eye regardless of conditions around it e.g. thick smoke, dustiness, fog or cloudy night.
